Since the teaching of William Garner Sutherland in the area of Osteopathy in the Cranial Field was introduced to the UK in 1974, the interest and demand for effective teaching in this area has increased exponentially. Our challenge has been to learn how to teach this work more effectively. The SCC has made significant progress in this area by reviewing the course structure, resulting in the Pathway for Learning.

We have also reviewed and developed our teaching methods. We are now seeing students become proficient in this work in a much shorter time than was the case when the SCC was formed in 1993, which indicates that our teaching strategy is effective. Our teaching material is constantly updated in the light of relevant scientific research.

SCC teachers are experienced osteopaths who use this approach extensively in practice. All are passionate about their work, and are dedicated to helping other osteopaths become proficient in this approach to osteopathy. Most SCC teachers have undertaken a teacher training course in which different teaching and learning styles are explored. This has enabled us to introduce a variety of teaching methods to facilitate effective learning.

Our courses and teaching methods are constantly reviewed and reassessed, and feedback from students on every aspect of our teaching is highly valued. Practical sessions are generally in small groups with one tutor to four students. This enables us to tailor the sessions to the individual needs of each student depending on their level of learning and experience, and gently challenge them to expand their skills and awareness.

Courses are run both in the UK and in parts of Europe, and many of our faculty are involved in teaching worldwide.
